Today’s insurance executives face a host of complex demands, from developing an integrated firm-wide strategy for the digital age and adopting emerging technologies to improving operational efficiencies, dealing with disrupted distribution channels, and needing to forge whole new market segments and product solutions to keep pace with competitors and new entrants alike. 

On the digital front, incumbent insurers must move quickly and decisively to retain customers and win new business. Insurtech investments and other efforts to embrace innovation are likewise seen as critical at this juncture. But there is a lot of noise to contend with, and insurers are learning that transformation requires “heavy lifting” from not only a technological standpoint, but also a cultural one. 

Many carriers are beginning to play a larger role in risk prevention and avoidance, leveraging their expertise to create value through services and advice rather than simply bearing the risk. This takes focus off of traditional underwriting and suggests business models will continue to evolve as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, the sharing economy and the future of mobility all converge. 

The Third Annual FT Insurance Innovation Summit will bring together leading executives and industry experts to discuss the best strategies to adapt and innovate in this rapidly changing ecosystem.

Evan Greenberg is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chubb Limited and Chubb Group. Prior to ACE’s acquisition of Chubb in January 2016, Mr Greenberg was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ACE Limited and ACE Group. He was elected President and Chief Executive Officer in May 2004 and Chairman of the Board of Directors in May 2007. Over the course of more than 40 years in the insurance industry, Mr Greenberg has held various underwriting and management positions and gained significant insight in the global property, casualty and life insurance sectors. Prior to joining ACE in 2001 as Vice Chairman, Mr Greenberg spent 25 years at American International Group, where he served as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1997 to 2000. Before that, he held a variety of senior management positions, including President and Chief Executive Officer of AIU, AIG’s Foreign General Insurance organization, and Chief Executive Officer of AIG Far East, based in Japan. Mr Greenberg is Chair of the US-China Business Council and Vice Chair of the National Committee on United States-China Relations. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Rockefeller University and the Board of Directors of the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Mr Greenberg serves by Presidential appointment on the United States Trade Representative’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Atlantic Council’s International Advisory Board. Mr Greenberg is an overseer of the International Rescue Committee.

Stephen Pelletier is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Prudential’s US-based businesses, comprising PGIM (the Global Investment Businesses of Prudential Financial), Prudential Retirement, Prudential Annuities, Individual Life Insurance and Group Insurance, which together had more than $1.3 trillion in assets under management as of September 30, 2018. Before he assumed his current role, Mr Pelletier was CEO of Group Insurance. Previously, he served as President of Prudential Annuities and Chairman and CEO of Prudential International Investments. He joined Prudential in 1992. Mr Pelletier received a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a Master’s degree from Yale University. Maria Vullo most recently served as Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS), working to protect consumers from financial crises and fraud. During her tenure as superintendent she prioritized cybersecurity, requiring New York banks and insurance companies to adopt programs and governance practices to more thoroughly protect themselves and consumers. She also promoted responsible innovation and regulation, prudent industry standards across financial services, and protected access to comprehensive health care. Prior to the DFS, Ms Vullo was a Partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison (New York, NY), specializing in securities, financial services, real estate, bankruptcy, and antitrust law. Previously, she served as Executive Deputy Attorney General for Economic Justice for then-New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. She holds a JD from New York University, an MPA from NYU Wagner’s School of Public Service, and a BA and Honorary PhD from College of Mount Saint Vincent.

Prior to his beginning at Alipay, Mr Badran served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Edo Interactive, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital River, and Senior Vice President and General Manager for First Data Corporation’s E-Commerce Solutions Group. He began his career in Milwaukee at M&I Data Services. Throughout his career, he has had experience with organizations that ranged from venture capital-funded, private equity-owned to various public companies. His career has led him to gain global experience across the e-commerce, big data, security, and payment industries. Mr Badran, born in Lebanon, graduated from Cardinal Stritch University with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 1988, and went on to receive a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch in 1997. He currently serves as a board member for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

Alexander Baugh is Chief Executive Officer, North America General Insurance at AIG. In this role, he oversees AIG’s North American Field Operations, as well as the Admitted Property and Casualty, Cyber, Global Multinational, Global Travel, Private Client Group, Warranty and Auto & Personal Property businesses. Mr Baugh is a 35-year veteran of AIG. Most recently, he was President of Liability and Financial Lines, managing the largest part of AIG’s commercial portfolio that included casualty, professional and management liability, environmental and cyber. Prior to this, Mr Baugh was President of Global Casualty. With his deep experience in long tail lines of business, he is a champion of advanced techniques in data science and technology. He has spearheaded the design of AIG studies, pilots and partnerships that explore the impact of innovative technology on the future of insurance, from wearable devices and data analytics, to industrial IoT and autonomous vehicles. 

Previously, Mr Baugh also served as Chief Risk Officer and Head of Strategic Planning for AIG Property Casualty, and before that as President and Chief Executive Officer of Chartis Europe Holdings Limited during his more than 20 years in European markets.Mr Baugh is a member of the Boards of K2 Intelligence, BritishAmerican Business and Enactus, an international non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. Prior to joining Swiss Re, he worked at AXA where he led National Accounts, Business Development, Specialty Markets and Sales Operations for AXA's US life business. This was a return to AXA, the company where he started his career in insurance. Prior to returning to AXA, he was the President of Mollen, a healthcare services company employing 25,000 nurses to deliver healthcare services nationwide. Mr Behling received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College and a Masters degree in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School.

Solaria is Liberty Mutual’s Innovation center focused on launching new digital insurance offerings and products that expand protection to the consumer in new ways beyond insurance. Areas of focus include the future of mobility, shelter, commerce and new forms of protection for life’s biggest investments and events. Liberty’s innovation programs have been recognized by a number of organizations including BostInno’s 50 on Fire, EFMA-Accenture Innovation in Insurance, and the SMA Innovation in Action Award for sustainable corporate innovation. The products have also been featured in media outlets such as The New York Times and VentureBeat. Prior to joining Liberty, he led efforts at BAE Systems (formerly AlphaTech) to solve critical needs for government labs like DARPA. Programs included breakthroughs in integrated sensor processing and control, multi-source data fusion, predictive models, and autonomous systems. Prior to that role, he served as Vice President, Sourcing at the company, establishing an M&A sourcing function to ensure the strategic alignment of transactions with the company’s business strategy and to adopt a proactive mindset in regards to M&A deals. Before joining Assurant in 2012, Mr Lonergan worked at Bain & Company, Inc. There he helped start and grow the company’s private equity practice in Atlanta, leading due diligence activities on more than 25 potential acquisitions. Based in NY and launched in 2016, the company has received over $35M in funding from leading investors, including USV, Index, Two Sigma and Foundation Capital. Ms Melgiri has over ten years of experience in the technology and media sector. Before founding CoverWallet, she was a strategy consultant at the largest North American TMT consulting group, Altman and Vilandrie & Co. A frequent speaker at insurtech conferences and outspoken champion for women’s leadership, she was the first licensed insurance advisor at CoverWallet. Recently she was named one of the 42 women in tech who “crushed it” in 2017 (TechCrunch), and Crain's 40 Under 40 Class of 2018. Ms Melgiri holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an MBA from MIT Sloan.

From 1989 to 1991, he was an Associate Attorney with Kroll & Tract, a New York law firm focusing on international financial services clientele. In 1989, he was a Legislative Aide in the Texas Senate.
