The global forces reshaping football, on and off the pitch

The Business of Football Summit returns for its ninth edition as new technology, changing consumer habits and persistent regulatory shifts accelerate disruption across the game. While private capital continues to seek opportunities in men's and women's football, and clubs intensify the hunt for new revenues, the challenge remains: how can you make money in football while also achieving sporting success?

Reflecting the disruption in the industry, the Summit is evolving for 2027 with an expanded format. The event will open with a major, high-level forum on sports technology, the Tech Assembly, followed by an exclusive gathering of football and finance leaders to discuss the future of the men's and women's game as an asset class.

Why 2027 is our biggest edition yet:

    • 1.5 days of in-person content, as well as expanded networking opportunities across the event, including additional coffee breaks, lunches and evening receptions.

    • During the Tech Assembly, two dedicated content streams — On the Pitch and Off the Pitch — allowing delegates to tailor their experience around the topics most relevant to their role.

    • A broader programme generally, covering player recruitment and performance, fan engagement, media rights, commercial strategy, investment, stadium development, governance models and much more, with all sessions moderated by senior FT journalists.

By bringing together the leading investors, club and league executives, regulators, broadcasters and tech innovators in football, the Summit will provide practical insights on the commercial, technological and regulatory forces driving the game, while helping delegates build valuable relationships with senior decision-makers.

Key themes shaping this year's agenda

    The US investment wave

More than half the clubs in England's Premier League, as well as major clubs in Italy, Spain and France, and many across lower leagues, are now majority-owned by US investors. What does this mean for football?

Women's football and the path to more rapid global growth

While the FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil is expected to build further growth momentum for women's football, much still needs to be done to develop the game globally, including in emerging markets.

    The hunt for new revenues

Facing slowing broadcast income and tighter financial regulations, clubs are reshaping commercial models as they scramble to diversify revenue sources. New or renovated stadiums are central to many clubs' plans. What are the most effective strategies?

    Investing in football's tech future

Adopting the latest technology is now a key priority for many clubs – both on the sporting side, with data analytics now integrated into player recruitment and development, and off the pitch, helping clubs deepen interaction with fans and commercial partners.

    The impact of big data

Football has entered the era of big data. A single match can now generate as many as 5mn data points, and 21 markers per player. The impact on the scouting and transfer landscape has been immense. How should clubs ensure they have the required tools?

    The multi-platform football consumer

Football fans, particularly the younger generation, are developing more fluid and complex loyalties, shaped as much by platforms, creators and communities as by clubs, leagues or federations. How can clubs monetise this changing football consumer?
