How policy and digitalisation can draw private capital into cleaner, smarter shipping
The global maritime industry is undergoing major structural change as geopolitical uncertainty, supply chain disruptions, decarbonisation and digitalisation reshape investment priorities. The transition will require substantial capital for low-emission vessels, fleet retrofits, alternative fuels and digital infrastructure. Hong Kong is developing its financial and maritime strengths to attract investment and solidify its position as a global shipping and logistics hub. Measures announced in the 2026-2027 budget include tax concessions for maritime services and improvements to intermodal transport.
How can government policies and initiatives strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a competitive maritime and financial centre? Where are the financing gaps and what financial products, structures and partnerships could encourage investment and manage risk? How can greener shipping and greater digitalisation support productivity and long-term economic growth?
This networking reception and panel discussion, hosted by the Financial Times in partnership with the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board, is part of Hong Kong Maritime Week 2026. It will bring together shipping and finance leaders to examine how the city can attract investment into its maritime economy. The discussion will focus on the role of public policy, private finance to unlock capital and digital infrastructure to support a more competitive and resilient shipping sector.
