Redesigning work for the age of AI

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how work is organised: changing tasks, skills and productivity requirements across industries. Yet the evidence does not suggest these changes will mean inevitable and widespread job losses. Instead, organisations are beginning to confront a more complex challenge: how should work adapt as people increasingly operate alongside AI agents, automation and physical AI?

Businesses are moving beyond technology adoption and towards a redesigning of roles and workflows. At the heart of this shift is hybrid human-AI workforce orchestration: how to co-ordinate human and digital capabilities effectively across the workforce. However, many organisations remain at an early stage, slowed by questions around skills gaps, governance, trust and organisational structures. Competitive advantage is therefore likely to depend on how effectively businesses decide which tasks to automate, where AI can support people and where human judgement remains essential.

This Financial Times event, hosted in partnership with The Adecco Group, will bring together senior business leaders, academics, policymakers and labour-market experts to examine AI’s impact on work and how organisations should respond. Through expert discussion and an interactive executive working session, participants will explore how workforces can be redesigned responsibly, who should lead that transformation and what decisions organisations need to make to prepare for the next phase of AI adoption.

As AI becomes embedded more deeply into workflows, organisations must decide which tasks should be automated, augmented or remain human-led.

Report-back and response: What workforce redesign requires

Workforce transformation raises questions beyond technology adoption, including who is accountable for decisions and how employers should support people whose roles change.
